FAQ
Can you convert USA and European ring sizes.
Yes all my rings are available in American, Canadian, Australian and European ring sizes. Just email me your countries ring size with the order and I will check it is the same as the UK size seen on my rings.
Do you have a ring gauge.
Yes, see the ring sizer tab.
Do you deliver to my country, area
I deliver to many countries including the UK, USA, and Canada. If your country is not shown please contact me as I may well deliver to your region.
Do you put your designs on other jewellery or convert other rings.
I am often asked this and it always surprises me. My designs are all original and elements of them i.e. the Scottish design are only available by ordering the rings made in my workshop. I also do not alter jewellery made by other manufacturers to look like my designs. If you like my work you can buy it here.
Do you Replicate Other Jewellery.
I do not copy other jewellery, I only make my own designs.
Do you do Jewellery repair work.
This is not something I do. I get asked quite a few times from people living locally but I am too busy working on my own jewellery. Your best option is to visit one of the town centre jewellers with your broken item.
Black/Oxidised ring colour durability.
Black colour/Oxidation on silver rings will fade over time. This it true of all black silver jewellery and this is part of the appeal of the design.
Over time oxidation will wear off. In some rings it wears off quickly - in others, it comes off slowly, changing the appearance of the ring. Skin oils, perspiration and soaps will take off the oxidation more quickly.
If the colour has faded to much for your taste then you can re-oxidize at home using eggs.
A good example of how to do it can bee seen in this video here - https://jewelrymakingjournal.com/how-to-oxidize-sterling-silver-and-copper-with-boiled-eggs/
Do you have a retail shop.
I do not have a retail shop. The best way to contact me is by email or telephone on 01228-526-554.
(Please be aware: Sometimes people turn up unannounced hoping to visit without speaking to me. Even if I am at the workshop I would unfortunately NOT be able to see them as I do not have facilities for visitors. To avoid disappointment after usually a long drive please contact me by email or by telephone before travelling.)

Welcome to Cumbrian Designs, I am Richard Harris a Jewellery designer working from my studio workshops in Cumbria, home of the beautiful Lake District and historic Hadrian’s Wall.
My love for jewellery started from a young age in my local family business, polishing charm bracelets from age 13, yes I don’t think it would be allowed these days. My dad was a silver hand engraver and I guess something rubbed off on me. I went to Sheffield City Polytechnic and graduated in 1988 with a BA (Hons) in Silversmithing and Jewellery and then went on to gain an FGA gemstone diploma. I was an early adopter of the internet and was selling online in 1998. Cumbrian Designs was launched in 2016.
Today I specialise in wedding bands, engagement rings and unique jewellery inspired by the lakes, fells and coastline that is so close by. My work is made from gold, platinum, silver and precious gemstones.
I am very lucky to have a career I enjoy and though the years it has kept me sane after clearing all the mess that my two teenage children have made. They are grown up now but as my wife says, you wouldn’t know it sometimes.
If you want to follow my latest ideas visit my Instagram or Facebook pages or my other website gretnagreenweddingring.com. If you have any questions about a specific design, please call me.
The best way to contact me is by email richard@cumbrian.com or you can telephone my workshop on 01228-526-554 Monday to Friday 10AM to 3PM.
